When the quarantine is lifted and life resumes back to normal, which choice did you choose?

A) Caught up on Netflix and Hulu shows

OR

B) Re-entered your job with a new set of skills and certificates under your belt

Both options have their perks, however, the best option is to use this down-time to grow your skills!

1. Take Inventory on Your Skills

Whether you're at your dream job or on a journey towards it, take inventory on the skills you have.

  • Identify your ideal role: , This can be your dream job or the next move in your career.

  • Make a list of your current skills.  Look at your current resume as a starting point for listing your skills.

  • Make a list of the skills that you will need. Consider the skills you need for your "ideal role" and add them to the list that you currently have; Identify the gap.

2. Take a Course

There are over 1,000 online courses in which you can take from home by using the following platforms:

  • LinkedIn Learning (Lynda.com content)

  • Coursera

  • YouTube (informal learning)

  • Download a book (e.g., Kindle, iBooks, and Audible's audiobooks)

You can receive certifications for many of these courses and they are cheaper in comparison to taking a college course.

3. Commit, Commit, and Commit

If you commit to 1 hour a day, your professional skills will be incrementally more valuable compared to when you started. Think about it:

  • 365 days in a year = 365 hours of growth

  • 60 days in quarantine (maybe) = 60 hours of growth

How you spend your time will determine your ability to meet the moment of opportunity!
